Harry Potter Birthday

Looking to throw a Harry Potter birthday bash? With the release of the final movie in the series, the young wizard is just as popular and more of a hero than ever. Most kids — and many adults — will love to celebrate their birthday Harry Potter style!

When is Harry Potter’s Birthday?

“The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies.” Sibyll Trelawney, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” by J.K. Rowling. Roundworms In Cats

By following the clues in the books, it can be deduced that Harry Potter’s birthday is July 31, 1980 — which means he will be celebrating his 31st birthday this year! For anyone that has been following Harry since he was a mere 11 years old, that can be hard to believe!

J.K. Rowling has said herself, in interviews, that Harry’s birthday is July 31 — which also happens to be her own birthday. The year is marked to be 1980, because in Book Seven, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” Harry and Hermione come across the tombstone of Harry’s parents at the cemetery in Godric’s Hollow. The date of his parents’ death is noted to be October 31, 1981. All throughout the books, Harry is noted to be 1 year old at the time of his parents’ death; therefore, he was born in 1980.

The Invitations

Unfortunately, you might have some trouble trying to get owls to deliver your invitations but you can still make them magical! Create invitations that look they might have come from Hogwarts itself. You can get sealing wax and a Hogwarts seal online, and either use hand calligraphy or a calligraphy-style font. Use the wording from Book One: “We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.” Be sure to include the date and the time — and maybe a note that it is in fact a party so there is no confusion!

The Cake

Some great designs for a cake based on Harry Potter’s world would be a replica of the Hogwarts quidditch field, or the Hogwarts Express. Even supermarkets usually have options for Harry Potter cakes. If you are a bit of an artist and would like to try a challenge, consider creating a model of Hogwarts, or maybe Hedwig or a golden snitch.

The Refreshments

Harry Potter’s world is filled with a number of magical foods that might be hard to find at the local grocery store. Some of these you can make yourself! To make Butterbeer, melt a little butter in the microwave. Pour root beer into microwave-safe glasses and heat each one for about 15 to 30 seconds on half power. Don’t heat for too long, or the soda will go flat. Stir into each glass 1 teaspoon of butter and a little bit of cream, to taste.

You can also find recipes for traditional British foods that are mentioned in the book, like Harry’s favorite, Treacle Tart. Consider creating some of these, or the pasties and pies mentioned for main courses, so your guests can have a small taste of Harry Potter’s England.

Unfortunately, the Weird Sisters have yet to release an album, but having the soundtracks playing will help create a magical mood. Enjoy the party!
